Archivio di Stato di Napoli
At EDIT Napoli, the prestigious trade fair dedicated to editorial design curated by Emilia Petruccelli and Domitilla Dardi, the Sala Filangieri of the State Archive will feature Ornamentum by De Castelli—an installation that highlights the captivating beauty of metal erosion, created in collaboration with 30 designers. Ornamentum: Artistic Perspectives on Metal Erosion is the result of De Castelli’s research into erosion, offering a unique artistic interpretation of this technique that evokes a sensory and emotional experience on the flat surface of sheet metal.
De Castelli’s research traces its roots back to the indirect etching technique of acquaforte and the craftsmanship of 16th-century Swiss goldsmiths, reinterpreted through the company’s specific and advanced expertise.
The Ornamentum by De Castelli installation showcased at EDIT Napoli 2024 is set against the backdrop of Belisario Corenzio’s grand fresco depicting the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes in the Sala Filangieri.
De Castelli has created a composition of 30 panels specifically for this extraordinary hall of the State Archive in Naples.
Incorporating lettering, optical graphics and organic storytelling, the panels offer personal interpretations of the erosion technique by the 30 participating designers, coming together to form a constellation of eclectic and multifaceted signs. The DeErosion brass panels are framed within a DeLabré B stainless steel structure, forming an imposing wall of over 4 metres.
