In collaboration with De Castelli, WallpaperSTORE* opens a concept pop-up shop within the DESIGN VE. Exhibition (Biennale Design Walks). The store presents a series of previews and limited edition pieces by some of the e-retailer’s top design partners. De Castelli pays homage to Venice and its acqua alta (high water) providing all the setup of MAREA, a new finishing developed in collaboration with Zanellato/Bortotto design studio, consisting in overlapping oxidations applied on iron to create watercolour effects recalling the reflections of the lagoon.
The setup consisting in a wall covering which shows all the possibilities of application of this finishing, and the cabinet Marea, a piece from the collection previously presented at Salone del Mobile of Milan in April.
Marea Cabinet extends vertically, with two doors that open giving space to wide shelves and dividers realized in wood. Somewhere between design object and work of art, Marea Cabinet is a unique piece of furniture thanks to an entirely hand-crafted finish that transforms the metal surface into a delicate watercolour.
The traces of time are drawn one on top of another, infused into the changing skin of the rigorous metal forms that define these cabinets and chests. Like the tide (marea in Italian) leaves its mark, wave after wave, even here the hand of the craftsman has left its sign, oxidation after oxidation, creating a painterly effect that resembles water’s erosion of the material.
Marea Cabinet is also available in other De Castelli finishes.
